Local campaign

As a local candidate for the area, I will be campaigning on issues which are important to the communities of Ancoats and Clayton. Some of the issues I will be highlighting are:

  • Supporting investment in Public Transport, against the Congestion Charge. The Conservatives built the current Metrolink, and it was expected that New Labour would continue its expansion. However, New Labour has let Manchester down, and is now expecting a Congestion Charge in exchange for investing in Public Transport. I will stand up to Gordon Brown’s New Labour, and support the Metrolink, while opposing the unnecessary Congestion Charge.
  • Supporting the £250m of investment as promised by New Labour in the super casino bid. Gordon Brown has let East Manchester down by withdrawing support for the investment, and must not continue to let the area down.
  • A greener ward. Much has been done so far, such as the investment in Clayton Vale, but Manchester is still behind in terms of trees compared with many other cities.
  • Better Cycling Routes. As an avid cyclist, I like to be able to cycle around the City, as well as in the Country. However, in much of Manchester, cycling routes are very dangerous, disappearing as soon as they appear. We need more support for cycling, which is an excellent way to keep fit, get around, and reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Supporting investment in the ward. I will support regeneration in the ward, but will ensure that local people are effectively represented in these regeneration projects.
  • Supporting local businesses
  • Supporting continuing the development of East Manchester as a key location for sporting events and facilities.
